Active release therapy

Active Release Techniques (ART) is a ground-breaking treatment that is helping world-class athletes, active individuals, and persons of all walks of life. ART is a patented, state-of-the-art soft tissue system that treats a multitude of problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, iliotibial band syndrome, rotator cuff injuries, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, groin strains and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be effectively treated with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common; they often result from a build up of scar tissue and adhesions due to trauma or overuse.

WHAT IS active release technique?

How do soft tissue injuries occur?

Damage to muscles (and other soft tissues) occurs for a variety of reasons:

Acute injuries (pulls, tears, collisions, etc.)
Accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
Excessive friction
Not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia)

Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue accumulates, muscles become shorter, weaker and less flexible. This can cause reduced ranges of motion, loss of strength and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness and weakness.ART is designed to deal with scar-tissue and adhesions.

What is an ART treatment like?

Every ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The ART provider uses his/her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissue is treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.

These treatment protocols , over 500 of them , are unique to ART. They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. ART is not a cookie-cutter approach.

What is the difference between Injury Care and Performance Care?

Injury Care is the treatment of damaged soft tissues in order for symptomatic relief to occur and the restoration to a pre-injured status.

Performance Care addresses the needs of people who are symptom-free but wish to enhance their function. Many professional athletes benefit from ART Performance Care which concentrates on removing adhesions and biomechanical restrictions that can inhibit full range of motion and reduce their ability to perform at the highest level possible.Performance Care is a valuable means for everyone to maximize their individual physical potential and reduce the likelihood of suffering from an acute injury.
